BLACK MARKET COLLECTIVE is an initiative of Ushinor Majumdar and Rajkumar Sengupta. There is no genre that predominates the sound of the collective but tendencies veer towards producing Indian sounds in a listener-friendly format with touches of Latin America and funk.
Ushinor plays the bass and nylon string guitar, primarily as a sessions player. He is also a music producer, composer and arranger for bands, individual performing artistes, short films and documentaries. He teaches music and is currently the head of Program Development for Music Basti.
Rajkumar plays the guitar and sings. He has played and continues to play with some of the leading bands in Kolkata, including Friends of Fusion who released their album during the previous year. He also composes and arranges for various projects and teaches music in one of Kolkata’s most prestigious schools.
Amongst the artistes currently being featured are - Nikhil Rao: Guitar player, trained in jazz, fusion and both Carnatic and Hindustani Classical.
Rahul Lal: A self taught percussion player will accompany the band on various Indian and Western percussion instruments.
The collective will feature other artistes during the gig who will be introduced during their performances. |
