Bangalore : Qvantel Oy, a Finland based telecom software product engineering major today announced its plans to set up a 'Center of Excellence' in the city to support its worldwide customers.

The company also announced the appointment of Rajesh Sengamedu as Vice President and GM of professional software services.

The development center to be made operational by September this year, would initially house 30 engineers and focus on executing projects for company's Scandinavian Tier-1 telecom handset and chipset manufacturers.

Briefing reporters, Mr Sengamedu said the Qvantel already had significant presence in Hyderabad and the city was its natural choice for expansion as it had key Nordic customers having a big R and D presence here.

''We will supply mobile applications to handset makers and middleware to chipset vendors. All major Tier-1 handset OEM/Chipset companies like Nokia, Ericsson, Qualcomm and Elisa Group have significant presence in the city and this is an untapped opportunity for Qvantel,'' he added.
